Organizational leaders today are grappling with a timeless challenge – how to exercise power, show up as authentically as possible, and work effectively across difference with colleagues of all levels. Today this timeless challenge exists within a backdrop of intense political polarization, a national reckoning around race, and a world that is increasingly distrustful of authority.
Contrary to popular belief, the fundamental question that leaders must ask in this context is not “What do I do?”, but instead, “Who do I choose to be?” The first question focuses on how to employ new tactics to solve a problem. The second question focuses on how to understand and shift one’s own beingness in order to affect lasting change. It is more concerned with individuals developing new meaning-making capacities so as to be able to meet whatever demand arises in their professional or personal lives. |
How do professionals get better at what they do? How do they get great? There are two views about this. One is the traditional pedagogical view. That is that you go to school, you study, you practice, you learn, you graduate, and then you go out into the world and you make your way on your own…The contrasting view comes out of sports. And they say "You are never done, everybody needs a coach." Everyone. The greatest in the world needs a coach. |

WHAT IS COACHING? Research shows that people change when they are in an ongoing relationship of challenge, support and accountability around goals that are in line with their own interests. This is the fundamental approach of coaching. I approach coaching as an ongoing relational process that helps my clients undergo the “internal revolutions” they need to live into their full authentic selves, take responsibility for their experiences, and create what they want in their lives. I honor my clients as the expert in their lives, and believe that everyone I work with is already inherently creative, resourceful, and whole.
